Hmmmmmmm 4 toes

Another strong contender for the identity of the statue has surfaced. Her name is Taweret and she is the goddess of fertility.
I'm digging the head piece and four toes.

If this is or isn't the identity of the statue I believe it's not really going to matter that much. I believe the important idea is that it appears there is an Egyptian connection to the island. This may be something that just adds colorful history to the island or it may come into play in future episodes. When you consider all the other hieroglyphs we've seen on the island and in the dharma stations, I think we will be learning a little bit more about the island Egypt connection.

Dude looks like a lady

I have to laugh at how wrapped up I get in this show. If you are like me I was in complete awe of that quick glimpse of the four toed statue. About 2 seconds before the cut to the view of the statue I knew it was coming. What I wasn't expecting is the creepy backside view of it. I also got a strong feeling the island was going to shift quickly again leaving us with no other views of it. Through out the show last night I couldn't get that image out of my head. I think it was a brilliant, titillating piece of editing by the creative team. In true LOST form they gave a lot but not quite everything. The online geeks immediately went to work last night trying to identify the statue and in my opinion the mystery has been solved. I think it's mildly spoilerish so if you don't want to know quit reading now.

At first what freaked me out so much was I though it appeared as if the statue had long uneven hair almost wookie like. After closer inspection of the screen caps you can see a clearly chiseled line that you would expect from historic statues. At this point most people agree this is a statue of Anubis, the Egyptian god of the dead. Before anyone starts regurgitating any purgatory theories a reminder that Darlton has stated many times that the island is NOT purgatory. In last night's episode Amy takes a necklace from her newly dead husband's neck. It's a necklace of a ankh, which is an Egyptian hieroglyph meaning eternal life. This is a very blatant clue on the writers part. Here is the part that sells me on the idea the statue is Anubis. In almost all documentations of Anubis he is holding at least one ankh and quite often two. In the screen cap you can see our statue is clearly holding what appears to be an ankh in each hand. So if this a statue of Anubis, what does that mean?

"Bentham" locations

Many of you know that Emily and I just got back from a 2 week trip to Hawaii. One of the things we did was to go on a LOST location scavenger hunt. With the help of LOST VIRTUAL TOUR I was able to pick out some of our favorite locations and plan an efficient tour. The site is great, most of the found locations are complete with gps coordinates so I could program them into my gps unit.
It was a lot of fun and a really great way to get off the beaten path and see some "real" Hawaii. I am planning on posting a complete slideshow of the picks soon. Until them here are a few that appeared in last weeks episode. Note, we had no idea they would air last week. We knew Hurley's hospital from past episodes. Sayid's school has been used in the past as the cantina that Mr. echo conducts his drug deal in and kills those dudes. It was also Jin's fathers fishing house. When we got there it was still prepped as the school.

Things I noticed about "life and death of Jeremy Bentham"

I am back from Hawaii and all caught up with LOST. This season has been in high gear and I hope you are enjoying it as much as I have been. If you are like me I watch the enhanced rerun of the previous week's episode before the new episode.
Here are a few things I noticed about "the life and death of Jeremy Bentham" that you can watch for if you re-watch it tonight.

It appears that everyone else on the plane besides Jack, Kate and Hurley are on the separate small island that the Hydra station is on.

It looks like my man Lapidus actually landed the plane since it is all in one piece.
maybe he used the runway we saw Kate and Sawyer being forced to work on in season 3

Caesar and Ilana seem to have an agenda and are looking for something in the Hydra office.

It looks like the hydra station is abandoned which makes me wonder if maybe the people are in a different time period then the people on the main island

I liked Locke's introduction complete with the jedi knight cloak

Windmore shows Locke a picture of Sayid building a house, when Locke arrives in Santo Domingo Sayid is in the exact same position as he was in the picture.

When Locke visits everyone he never uses the name Jeremy Bentham. However in the future all of the Oceanic 6 refer to him as Jeremy Bentham

Kate's sobbing strong arm kiss with Jack seemed really awkward. One thought is that maybe she is trying to get pregnant before they go back to the island

Locke really is lost without the island, he is back in a wheelchair and doesn't have the strength to convince anyone to come back

I have no idea who to believe Ben or Windmore

The scene with Locke and Ben is one of the best acting scenes in the series

ABC presents "Ask LOST" and preview for tonight

Darlton talk about tonight's episode

For those of you wondering who I am talking about when I say "Darlton" it is Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse.
They are the head writers and executive producers of LOST. Basically they are creators or fathers of the show.
They presented the idea to ABC and are completely responsible for the story arc. Here is a clip of them talking about tonight's episode.

The Little Prince

Last weeks episode was titled "The Little Prince". Like most people I assumed it was referring to Aaron. However a lot of people are starting to point to the story "The Little Prince" by Antoine de Saint ExupĂ©ry. Especially after Darlton mentioned last week that people may want to to read it. It has been known for a while that Darlton have borrowed from a lot of 20th century literature as fodder for LOST. They have openly admitted this and are encouraging people to seek out these books and read them. You can check out the LOST book club here. I haven't read the Little Prince yet but plan to in the next week on vacation, I guess it's quick read. It takes place in a far away land in space. An interesting note, the little prince lives on an asteroid named Besixdouze which we learned in this episode is also the name of Rousseau’s research ship. You can read the Little Prince on line here.

Will Locke be reincarnated?

One of the things LOST geeks are always on the look out for is the anagrams that the LOST writers like to put in the company names that appear in the background of each episodes. Especially since the HOFFS DRAWLER funeral parlor in the season 3 ending was determined to be an anagram for FLASH FORWARD.
Last weeks episode had a huge one. The van that Ben is driving Locke's body around in has the name of a carpet cleaner on it called
Canton-Rainier. This was a fairly easy one, yes, it's an anagram for REINCARNATION.

ABC LOST scene showdown

ABC had a scene showdown going on for the last few months. Basically it was a bracket of memorable LOST scenes that fans could vote on their favorites. This week the champion was announced. The two finalists were Penny and Desmond's phone call and Charlie's death. The winner was Charlie's death. My personal fav was either the phone call or John Locke in the walkabout office.

Been too long

I hope everyone is enjoying season 5. After tonight's episode the season is officially a quarter done.
It's been way too long since my last post. I promise to post more regularly.

Comic Con 2008

For the last few years Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse "Darlton" host a lost panel at comic con. They take questions from the audience and usually have some sort of video  tease for the next season. This year was no different. The Q&A is always really entertaining.

The Dharma Initiative Wants You....

The Dharma initiative has reformed and they are looking for new recruits. About a month ago a website was posted in order to search for the right kind of people to join the new initiative. You will need to go through a serious of interesting online tests. Currently there are 5 and a new test  seems to be released every 2 weeks. Nobody knows where this is going but it's worth it just to mull over the psychological questions you have to answer. The eligibility test is particularly interesting. Just follow the link below....
